Loan Stars: Meet the award-winning Canadians
July 10, 2017 8:00 am The work day has just begun. You’re scrolling through your Twitter feed as you gulp your morning coffee, and you notice that the latest Loan Stars list is out! Did any of your favourite authors make the list? Any titles strike your fancy? And do you pay attention to the maple leaf next to the author’s name, marking them as Canadian? Let’s take a moment to celebrate those Canadian authors, shall we? Earlier last year, we couldn’t stop gushing over the award-winning power of Madeleine Thien. Well, there’s lots more CanCon to fawn over. Out of 16 Loan Stars lists from May 2016 to August 2017, 34% of Loan Stars top picks have been Canadian-authored – that’s 54 books! We made a Goodreads shelf of these Canadian-authored Loan Stars picks if you’re looking to add some more CanLit to your reading list. Of these 54 Canadian-authored titles, 13 of them (just under a quarter) have been nominated for or have been the recipient of one or more awards. Check out the infographic below to see which great Canadian titles were selected as Loan Stars top picks before they went on to reach great(er) heights: Congratulations to all the winners and nominees!
